PASSIVATION IN THE MEDICAL SECTORPASSIVATION OF WATCHMAKING SUPPLIES

Passivation represents a state of metals or alloys in which their corrosion rate is significantly slowed by the presence of a natural or artificial passive film.

At the end of manufacture, the workpiece is cleaned according to the following steps, ensuring nothing obstructs the passage of air to its surface, and an oxide film forms naturally:

  • Removal of oil and grease
  • Removal of carbon steel (not stainless) particles
  • Removal of a thick oxide layer that may have formed during the thermal treatments and welding operations (coloured layer, calamine, dairy, etc.)

The innovative product DECOMET meets these requirements to achieve this. Thanks to its formulation developed by NGL, it will remove imperfections on the surface of parts such as tool fragments or iron particles. The surface will be totally free of residues to leave the oxygen from the air to quickly recreate a compact, uniform and protective oxide layer.

DECOMET presents the advantage of being citric acid-based enabling its completely safe use unlike nitric acid-based solutions. Pre-cleaning before this operation is essential in order to guarantee optimum contact between the substrate and the passivation agent.
