DEGREASING AND DRYING IN SOLVENTS

The “Chemours” (previously Dupont de Nemours) fluorinated solvents, in particular “Vertrel Sion”, are an ecological alternative to HFEs and other chlorine solvents currently used in the field of cleaning. NGL has been appointed by Chemours, the distributor for Switzerland.

As of today, two product ranges are of interest for different industries, in particular for watchmaking, deplacement, degreasing and drying.

Vertrel SION:

This solvent, based on a new molecule that is more environmentally friendly, is often used in Switzerland as a degreaser for mineral oils on all kinds of metal and then as a drier (this system is used with other cosolvents and fluorinated solvent products other than Vertrel).

The solvent power of Vertrel SION is vastly superior to all other fluorinated products on the market, and operating costs are reduced by 3.

Vertrel XD-F et SDG:

The deplacement drying system consists of eliminating water on the pieces by immersing them in a solvent. The first stage of separation of water in “Vertrel X-DF” is possible thanks to an added water repellent. The difference in density, the non-mixable nature of the solvent and water enables the separation of the two phases. Immersion and drying in “Vertrel SDG” enables the elimination of the additive from the first immersion and the efficient drying of the pieces thanks to the steam phase.

Contrary to the “hybrid” system currently used in the industry (washing with detergent, rinsing with water, dewatering,
cosolvent, solvent), this procedure does not require dewatering or a cosolvent, which reduces operating expenses by 4. The solvent load does not change as the water is eliminated by an “overflow” system or “water separator”.

In order to conform to Swiss legislation, all fluorinated products on the market should be used in closed (careen) machines.

Our laboratory at Nyon is equipped with a deplacement degreaser and drier which are available for you to test.
