The Afterwork organised by NGL Academy at the end of this October, in Switzerland, was intended to customers and NGL prospects from French-speaking Switzerland. The theme chosen was the management of residual industrial water which is a difficult activity to manage in companies because of the flows of water coming from manufacturing processes which can be both qualitatively and quantitatively irregular.

It involved presenting tools which allow water treatment processes to be managed in an industrial environment:

1. The legislation concerning the discharge of water into the public water system, presented by Jean-Michel RIETSCH – Engineer and Project Head for the General Directorate for the Environment of the Canton of Vaud (Switzerland), allowed attendees to well understand what must not be done in terms of discharge. The presenter emphasized the role of the operator of an industrial waste water treatment station in terms of compliance check of the treatment and regular maintenance of the installations. Using a targeted selection of articles from the legislation, Mr. RIETSCH alleviated us from a complete reading of the federal and cantonal laws and ordinances generally considered as tedious.

2. The importance of choice not only of treatment equipment but also of the most suitable chemical process was discussed by Dr Félicien MAZILLE, Manager of NGL’s Water Treatment Division. In addition to the presentation of different types of equipment, the hints and tips section highlighted concrete solutions available for a better management of processes.

3. Youssef BELLAMMOU, Maintenance Manager of the waste water treatment station at the BESTinCLASS Branch of Richemont International in Meyrin (Switzerland), perfectly illustrated how the training of personnel and the maintenance of installations with traceability in the form of a logbook, are important for the sustainability of a physical-chemical process. Being responsible for the treatment of more than 15 m3 per day of residual water heavily polluted with heavy metals, Youssef BELLAMMOU received many questions from the participants concerned either by a new waste water treatment station project or preoccupied about bring an existing treatment station in compliance with local regulation.

The remarks from Cyril GOUVERD, Managing Director of BESTinCLASS, clearly demonstrated how important it is for a company management to dedicate enought resources, work time and operator training, if they want their wastewater station to function in the best conditions.

The Afterwork traditionally ends with a cocktail buffet which is an occasion in particular for fruitful discussions with the new NGL technical sales representatives for this sector: Philippe MALAGUTI and Philippe WÜTSCHERT who, as electroplater and chemist respectively, have the experience required to respond to requests from industrialists concerning washing and surface preparation in a detergent medium as well as water treatment in general.

The next “Afterwork” on the topics “Water Treatment” and “Water-based cleaning” are scheduled in spring 2018. We will keep you informed via our News / Events website. Please visit our website at News/Events.
